I started the course in 2018 and had problems

with my reading and writing. I was not able to

complete my assignments as agreed by my

assessor. I was also very shy in participating

during the group sessions with my colleagues.

I struggled to attend sessions due to childcare

issues. My assessor called me aside and asked

what was holding me back, and because I

trust her I was able to tell her my weaknesses.

She suggested meeting me separately from

my colleagues who were on the programme.

She also suggested that I read a book every

week to improve on my speaking and

listening skills as well as writing and

punctuations. One of my biggest fears was the

maths and English test I was to do.

HOW WERE YOU FEARS OVERCOME?

My tutor agreed that I could have 1-2-1 sessions

and I improved on my attendance. She was very

supportive with childcare arrangements. I

bought reading books and was directed. This

improved my speaking, listening and writing

skills and I am now able to pronounce big

words with confidence. My assessor has been a

great support to me. She gave me the chance

to have professional discussions and catch up

with all my outstanding assignments. She

motivated me everyday and checked on my

well-being. I was able to practice my maths and

English by using the BKSB and past question

papers. I sat for the test and passed. This has

built my confidence because something that I

was afraid of, I have been able to conquer

because of her support.
